This program is based upon nine key sessions. There is an opening session that is developed as a combined time for parents and their student. There are seven sessions that are focused solely on the student and one additional session that is just for the parents. However, feel free to modify the sessions to fit your needs. Churches have condensed the sessions into a weekend model, or used the sessions in four weeks. The student sessions can truly be used in any order. The goal is to set your students to feel empowered to own their next steps. The following will give you a quick overview of each session.
Your Next Steps - This first session is a joint session for both parents and students.
Families will be introduced to the fact that they are about to enter into a new phase of their lives that will be different than what they’ve known up until this point. By exposing families to these issues they will feel more confident in dealing with what lies before them.
Discovering Your Voice - Student session
Through this session the students will be able to hold on to their own strengths, their own unique voice and their God given purpose in an environment that tries to shape them into something other than who God created them to be.
New Relationships - Student session
Through this session the students will identify the kind of friends that they need in their lives and be able to express what they have to offer to others in their new communities.
Self-Leadership - Student session
Through this session the students will learn how to create balance in their schedule and how to develop the right set of daily disciplines that will help them reach their personal goals.
Owning What You Believe - Student session
Through this session students will identify the areas of their life that are not negotiable and begin to work on strengthening areas that they have not taken ownership of.
Dealing With Failure - Student session
Through this session the students will understand that we have all been given the power to overcome temptations and the ability to continue on our journey when we make mistakes.
Missional Living - Student session
Through this session the students will be able to identify how they will contribute to God’s mission of restoring a broken world.
Financial Responsibility - Student session
Through this session students will increase their understanding and application of biblical concepts of stewardship by encouraging students to incorporate practical personal disciplines with regard to financial management.
Parents will be encouraged to take on a new role of support and resist the pull to disengage as things get difficult. They will also learn to lean on each other to find encouragement & resources.
